If you are looking for arts & culture, our communities are home to internationally known artists. Shopping for original art is an enjoyable way to become more familiar with this area. The visitor will be delightfully surprised at the number and quality of artists’ studios.

Take a drive through Cedar and Yellow Point and watch for the many “artist studio” signs. These working studios offer a glimpse into the artist’s creative process as well as having an assortment of one of a kind gifts. This is a place where whimsy and wonder abound.

The Cedar Yellow Point Artisans Summer tour will take you on a delightful drive in the country. Nestled among tall cedars and ocean you will find studios filled with art. Smell the country air, watch for deer, drive past sheep filled meadows, flowers and eggs are sold at the farm gate along your way to artist studios. The Cedar Yellow Point Artisan Christmas tour is a highlight of the season with over 20 studios open to the public and a wide range of art ready for gift giving or just treating yourself. A great place to view local artist work is at the Ladysmith Waterfront Arts Gallery. The gallery features monthly exhibits and is run by the Ladysmith Arts Council. The Arts Council is committed to supporting, promoting, displaying, presenting and developing art in all its forms in the community of Ladysmith and surrounding area. The Expo Legacy Building where the gallery is located sits above the Ladysmith Maritime Marina and affords great views of the harbour. The gallery has been in operation since 2006 and is the home for seven studio artists, a classroom and a gallery that features over a dozen unique shows a year. With a membership of over 260 artists the art is varied and always interesting. You will find international artists gracing the gallery beside those of emerging artists. Arts on the Avenue is an annual street arts festival that takes place on Sunday, Aug. 25 in downtown Ladysmith. It is a open air arts festival and sale of juried art pieces. It showcases artists and artisans from this area and Vancouver Island. The festival is celebrating 15 years this year.

This area is home to many artists. Acclaimed potter Mary Fox’s studio is open year round. There’s a number of talented potters and painters such as Michael Dean. Check at Ladysmith Visitor Centre for other studios.

Whether you are looking for an intimate evening with local musicians at a coffee shop or a high kicking musical you will find it in our area. With two major theatres a short drive away and several local theatre groups performing there is always something to see. The Yellow Point Drama Group has been entertaining the community for over half a century and is one of the oldest drama groups in BC. Visit for the schedule.
