May 2025

Then, there are all the wonderful volunteers who operate our galleries, museums, clubs and societies that host events such as the Sailpast at Transfer Beach Park. Don’t miss this chance to see boats on parade and enjoy the entertainment ashore. This is thanks to the Ladysmith Yacht Club, which is celebrating its 40th year. The Ladysmith Maritime Society is also celebrating 40 years, despite its challenges and has lots planned for our community this summer.
Another milestone this month is the Ladysmith Rotary Club’s 25th anniversary of their Garden Tour. You’ll get to meet the big boy on this month’s cover and unearth more garden delights on their tour – all while helping raise funds for projects in your community.

You learn something new every day. Like for instance did you know that Cedar is hosting BC’s largest pinball tournament? I am no pinball wizard – unlike the world champions that will be playing here, but I do have a fondness for the silver ball. I spent my teen years in South Vancouver and every weekend my friends and I would walk down to the Blue Boy Hotel to play the two pinball machines they had in the lobby.
Recent years have seen a resurgence in the game with classics along with state-of-the-art machines. It’s fun to see what was old become new again. Though I don’t know about the mom jeans trend…

August 2024

August marks the start of the Cowichan Valley Wine Festival, and the opportunity to visit local wineries.
It’s also your last month to catch the Concerts In the Park series at Transfer Beach Amphitheatre.
As we wrap up this edition of TAKE 5, I am already planning for the many beaches I will visit this month.
I encourage you to do the same. We live on an Island where access to the ocean is always close by.
