International Museum Day – Nanaimo Museum
May 18 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
International Museum Day at Nanaimo Museum
Saturday, May 18, 2019 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
The Nanaimo Museum is celebrating International Museum Day on Saturday, May 18 with
free admission at the Nanaimo Museum and Bastion. International Museum Day 2019 is an opportunity
for museums around the world to showcase their role as cultural hubs. The Bastion’s summer season
also kicks off on May 18 and runs through Labour Day.
The International Museum Day 2019 theme, “Museums as Cultural Hubs: The Future of Tradition” is
reflected in the Nanaimo Mysteries exhibit. “This exhibit has been a great opportunity to share some of
the darker stories from Nanaimo’s history,” says Aimee Greenaway, Curator. “Nanaimo Mysteries uses
interactive elements such as the popular Mugshot Selfies, Ghost Stories board and ‘Artifact or
Artifiction?’ to engage visitors in the history behind murders, crime, ghosts and vanished heritage sites
in the community.”
Celebrate international Museum Day by visiting the Nanaimo Museum and the Bastion, and by taking
photos and tagging #nanaimomuseum, #IMD2019, and #CanMuse on social media.
Nanaimo Museum is open daily 10:00am to 5:00pm from May long weekend to Labour Day weekend.
Admission, including to Nanaimo Mysteries, is free on May 18. Regular admission is $2 for adults, $1.75
for seniors and $0.75 for children.
