National Indigenous Peoples Day online celebrations June 19-21. Online workshops on weaving, wool and more. Pre-recorded concerts by Blue Moon Marquee and Nate Harris. www.cipw.ca. Concerts by Blue Moon Marquee and Nate Harris were especially recorded for the Weekend event. Blue Moon, from Westholme near Chemainus, is up for the Blues Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Four years ago they were nominees for the Indigenous Artist of the Year. There will be a special welcome from Penelakut chief and council. Elder’s meals will be prepared in the Halalt, Penelakut and Stz’uminus communities and the Penelakut-owned Salish Sea Market will be passing out bannock and jam to first-comers as it is traditional to share a feast.

Harbour Tours with LMS The  Maritimer will start operating Harbour Tours June 19th and 20th at 10:30 am and 2:00 pm. The Maritimer is a 17 foot, former deep-sea Davidson life boat and makes for a fun activity for friends and family! $15./ adult, $7.50 /under 19 years old, $40./ family of FOUR (2 adults & 2 under age 19) Tour operators are volunteers and Transport Canada certified. LMS- FISH for FREE on June 19/20 Father's Day weekend! The BC government is waiving the requirement for a fishing license this weekend. Bring your fishing rods and bait and come on down to the docks at the LMS Marina and see what you can catch and release! Check in at the office as to which docks are available and bring your life jacket, LMS has extra life jackets too! Mike from Vancouver Island Fishing for Fun Society will be at LMS Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. He has fishing gear for the kiddies to use and will bring crab traps to see what we can ‘see’ from the bottom of the ‘sea’. Waterfront Camera Walk with Bob Burgess. June 19, 5am. Registration required- email: Registration will be confirmed with details of where to meet. Born in Alberta 67 years ago to a military family that moved all over Canada and Europe Bob moved from new Brunswick to Ladysmith in 2017.  Have been an avid photographer for over 30 years.  Have visited all 10 provinces, two territories, 34 US states including Alaska logging 2 million miles over a 5 year period in an RV photographing North America.

Foraging and Feasting Series - Herbal Tincture Workshop hosted by Champagne Hill Botanicals 2083 Furn Rd., Nanaimo. June 20, 10am-2pm, $75/person. champagnehillbotanicals.ca  250-714-4246 Learn how to make your own herbal tinctures!  A tincture is a herbal remedy that uses alcohol to extract the desired properties of a plant.  Tinctures can be made as single plant tinctures or as formulas; they can be prepared folk-style or with specific rations.  We will cover some of these variations. This workshop includes an outdoor component where we will be foraging for plants.  Please dress appropriately for the weather. Bring lunch and a water bottle, a face covering, and at least four 125 to 250 ml mason jars to take your tinctures home in!

Woodpecker Walk - Wildwood Ecoforest 2929 Crane Rd., Yellowpoint, June 20. Pre-register for start time between 11am and 1:30pm. 90 minutes to complete the forest trail stations all about woodpeckers. Register at www.ecoforestry.ca/event-listings We are planning to run a family friendly, socially distanced woodpecker walk on Sunday June 20th. People must pre register though and their group (max 6 people) will receive a start time between 11 and 1:30. They will have 90 minutes to complete the trail visiting stations set up in the forest and learning about woodpeckers as they go. Each group's start time is staggered by 15 minutes so they don't run into each other.
