April 2022

In acknowledgement of Earth Day on April 22 a “green” thread runs through the latest TAKE 5  .There is a lot of good work being done for the planet locally and abroad. Individuals, groups, businesses and governments are making changes in positive ways. Yes, there is lots to do – and it isn’t easy. Last year I decided to go plastic-free. It wasn’t simple and I failed. But in trying, I greatly reduced my plastic use and I continue to work towards my goal. Happy Easter and Happy Earth Day!

TIPS FOR GOING ‘GREEN’

PROTECT POLLINATORS by going pesticide-free! We need pollinators for healthy ecosystems now and in the future.

BUY LOCAL FOOD to reduce transportation costs and the distance from farm to plate. Buy straight from the farm and visit your local farmers’ market to support farmers working in your community.

EAT ORGANIC FOOD to keep your body and the environment free of pesticides.

USE ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY, non-toxic cleaning products to avoid washing toxic chemicals down the drain.

TRY MEATLESS MONDAYS! Prepare some plant-based recipes. Ask your school or organization to serve more plant-based meals and food.

THINK ABOUT THE BEST WAY to travel. Depending on the destination, it may be more eco-friendly to drive than to fly.

BREAK FREE from single-use plastics! They are very convenient but, they are inconvenient to dispose of and extremely toxic to the planet.
