August marks some of my favourite stretches of the year. Summer is officially cool car season around here — the days are long, the patios are full, and there’s a certain energy in town that only comes with peak summer. Whether you’re catching a farmers market, cooling off at the beach, or just soaking up the sunshine at your favourite park, this issue is packed with the people, places, and events that make our community shine.
And speaking of shine — the month builds toward the season’s undisputed showstopper: the Ladysmith Show ‘N Shine. Every single year, the organizers manage to outdo themselves, and this year is no exception. From the gleaming rows of classic cars to the crowds that pack the downtown core, it’s become one of those events that captures exactly what makes this community special. It all kicks off on Friday evening at Ladysmith A&W with the Rod Run.
There is so much happening this month. The Cowichan Craft Beer and Food Festival brings together brewers and food vendors for a day built for sampling and socializing in Chemainus, while Arts on the Avenue turns downtown Ladysmith into an open-air gallery, showcasing the creativity that runs through this region.
So get your motor running, and let’s celebrate everything August has to offer.
