You will notice a theme running in this issue. Our February issue looks at health and heritage. As we start 2025, many of us have made resolutions to get healthier. But how fit is our healthcare system?
Heritage BC Week is February 17 to 23. So why should you care? If civic pride and shared identity aren’t enough for you, let’s consider the economic value of heritage tourism. We take pride in our heritage, yet some of the most iconic buildings are crumbling as we speak. Their loss will forever change the downtown landscape.
The nominations for Ladysmith’s By-Election for Mayor had barely closed before dirt started to fly. It’s not uncommon for an elected official to endorse a candidate; however, less so to insult the nominees.
This kind of behaviour makes us all sad. But there is hope. February 17 is International Random Act of Kindness Day. A day to smile, check in with neighbours and pay it forward at a local café. Hopefully, that day will also serve as a reminder to be civil during the Ladysmith By-Election. On March 1, the people will vote for a new mayor. Please get out there and vote. Fundamental changes are possible at the municipal level, and there’s a new opportunity to heal some of the wounds from the past few years.
