TIP- How to get free exposure in TAKE 5 -or any publication for that matter!
There is an age-old technique that always works when you want to share your information, your opinion, publicize an event or just say thank you. It’s your trusty Letters to the Editor – and whether you are dealing with your local paper or an international magazine, print and digital, there will always be a Readers Forum available to you. (and if there is not, stop reading it!) So now that you are sold on why you should write a letter, but how can you make ensure your letter will get published?
While there are no guarantees – here are some tips from TAKE 5.
-Make it brief.
-Make it about something you personally feel strong about.
-Speak to the reader. One effective way to draw in readers is by asking a question, then fill in the answer.
-If you’re responding to a piece in the publication, make that clear by referencing the article and date.
-Express your opinion and back it up with facts so you are convincing.
-Conclude with a call to action if appropriate.
-Length should be under 300 words, include a photo if you have one.
-Include your first and last name and your phone number in case the editor needs to verify it.
-Never submit the same letter to multiple publications. If it’s on the same theme then it should be rewritten for each publication.
The deadline for TAKE 5 Letters to the Editor is the 15th of the month prior. Email: editor@take5ca.
