Welcome to the July issue – packed with summer vibes, live music and plenty of reasons to get outside.
This is the season when musicians truly shine. You’ll have the chance to catch them at Concerts in the Park at Transfer Beach, or head over to Waterwheel Park in Chemainus for the Chemainus Valley Blues Festival, the Chemainus Bluegrass Festival, and a performance by Zachary Stevenson – just to name a few. And, of course, no summer music lineup is complete without the Island Folk Fest. If you’ve never been to Providence Farm for this magical event, you’re missing out!
Music isn’t the only reason to get out and enjoy the season. With warm weather in full swing, it’s the perfect time to dive into water adventures. Whether you’re swimming, paddling, or boating, we’re lucky to be surrounded by an abundance of lakes, rivers, and the seaside. Francesca Pacchiano brings us up to speed on the current state of our local lakes in her article this month.
We are also touching on a rather sticky topic involving our local MLA, Stephanie Higginson. You won’t want to miss that.
And big news for downtown Ladysmith – our historic Island Hotel is undergoing renovations. The iconic building has long been a centrepiece of the community and a symbol of Ladysmith’s heritage. With all its past glory, we’re hopeful these updates will give it the fresh start it deserves while preserving its charm.
Here’s to a summer of music, sunshine and community spirit. Enjoy the issue!
