November 2025

And here it is – the brightest month of the year. November is when the annual Festival of Lights opens our festive season. And oh what a wonderful event this has become. Not only does it bring thousands of visitors to town, but garners priceless promotion for local businesses, and reminds us of the commitment that volunteers have made. You can read all about a new and exciting addition to the Festival of Lights that has everyone buzzing with excitement. A big thank you to Ladysmith & District Credit Union for their vision and support.

Also in this issue is the heartwarming tale by Kerith Waddington of a North Oyster Farm that is a sweet sanctuary for animals.

Francesca Pacchiano writes about the growing crisis in our backyard. This is not just a municipal problem, but requires more effort by all levels of government. Many unhoused people suffer from poor mental health and addictions and need more than a bed for the night. There have been ongoing fire incidents downtown and the potential loss would be a blow to this community. This complicated problem needs a new plan.  In the meantime, you can help out by making a donation to Ladysmith Resources Centre or Harvest House or any of the charities and foodbanks, and send an email to your local representatives and council asking for action.

On a lighter note, we are kicking off a series on Gulf Island living and Gabrielle Lee discovers the beauty of Ruxton Island. There are many special places to explore indeed.

Don’t forget to visit the beloved Cedar/Yellowpoint Artisan Tour, showcasing the area’s best artists and artisans just in time for Christmas.

See you at Light Up,
