Where did it go I wonder? Summer came and went and left me wanting more. Now, don’t get me wrong — there are some good things about fall. Snuggly sweaters, pumpkin pies and the leaves turning into shades of gold. This is the perfect time to get outdoors and explore our mountains and trails.
Fall also marks my favourite holiday — Halloween. In this issue, we visit Huard House and the couple behind it. They have been giving people a scary time for over a decade.
If you haven’t been yet, make sure to visit this year. The suggested donation is $10, and all proceeds go to youth and community groups in the area. And that is a win-win.
Kerith Waddington visits a unique business in Chemainus that is helping to make sweet music sound sweeter.
In the south end of Ladysmith, a group of people have been working on a replica of a one-room schoolhouse that will be used for events and school field trips. The school is part of a growing Heritage Village owned by private collectors Harry and Shirley Blackstaff. What they and their supporters have accomplished through the years is truly amazing. We salute you!
Watching the world explode, I am truly grateful that my parents chose Canada to make our home and that I chose our Vancouver Island community. Don’t forget to vote. It is democracy in action. Let your voice be heard. Here’s to peace, my friends.
