I think August may be my favourite month. There are still lots of summer days left to enjoy while the whole community is active with events, outdoor festivals, concerts, and visitors admiring our piece of paradise.

I’ve always loved the month of May.
Nestled between spring and summer, May brings bright weather filled with blossoming flowers and sprouting vegetables. The sweet scent of my fruit trees promises goodness yet to come.
This issue is packed with garden news to inspire you: trends, plant sales and the Ladysmith Rotary Garden Tour. The Cedar Farmers Market reopens on Mother’s Day. This is my favourite place to shop and connect with growers and producers.
Inside you will read about local wildlife, tips for a greener future, community clean-ups, and news about rebates to save money and energy. A big thank you to Bob Burgess for his fantastic wildlife photos and to Kerith Waddington, who does a great job with our feature stories.
And yes, spring is coming. Monday, March 20, marks the “spring equinox” in the Northern Hemisphere. That’s us. And to celebrate all that new growth, we kick off our Home & Garden series.

TIME TO SPARKLE & SHINE! Our extended summer weather was lovely but we have much to celebrate with the cooler, rainy season. For one thing – Ladysmith’s Festival of Lights is back! There is something special about sharing the experience, ohh-ing and ahh-ing over the nighttime parade, the huge Chuck Perrin tree and fireworks. Christmas
